Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I join the Stearns Benton Medical Society (SBMS)?

In addition to the benefits of membership, SBMS members support the profession of medicine throughout the state.  The MMA and its county societies are the only organizations representing physicians across all specialties and practice environments.  By joining SBMS, you are lending your support to the initiatives that benefit all physicians.

Do I have to join the American Medical Association (AMA)?

No, you do not need to join the AMA to be a member of SBMS.  Members are required to maintain membership in the Minnesota Medical Association (MMA).

How do I get involved?

Members can get involved with SBMS in several different ways.  Perhaps the best place to start is to visit a Board of Directors meeting.  All members are welcome to attend and can get a feel for the organization.

Another way to get involved is to get involved with the Circle of Health's effort to combat opioid abuse.

SBMS members are also encouraged to apply for MMA committee positions.  All committees have a conference call option, so travel to Minneapolis is not required.

If you’re interested in any of these opportunities, please call Elizabeth Anderson at (612) 362-3740 or email sbms@stearnsbentonmedicalsociety.org.

Who represents me?

The Board of Directors meets to discuss issues related to the practice of medicine in Stearns and Benton counties. In addition, several area physicians serve on MMA committees and task forces.
